While setting up email functionality in SQL Server Report Server I came across a peculiar error.

“The server response was: 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender.”

Double checked the Email and Execution Account in Reporting Services Configuration Manager and both were set correctly, but I was still receiving the error. During my Google search I cam across an article explaining the issue in detail and my explanation (below) is specific to SQL Server 2008 and Exchange Server 2010.

First line of business is to create a new receive connector in the Hub Transport Server role, this is done from within the Exchange 2010 Management Console. The definition and role of the Hub Transport can be found here for further clarification.

To create the new receive connector, navigate via the Navigation Pane to Server Configuration>Hub Transport, then right-click in the empty space in the receive connectors window in which you then click “New receive connector”.

Following the completion of the Receive Connector you can now set the properties. Begin by adding the IP of the SSRS server to the “Receive mail from these remote servers that have these IP addresses:” under the Network Tab and check Anonymous Users under the Permissions tab (below).

Bingo!
